The harvest wine season has people in Michigan heading to vineyards. A program at Lake Michigan College is providing that same opportunity. Lake Michigan College Wine & Viticulture Technology Program has created a trade style program for students to learn more about the wine industry. The program offers three semesters of classroom, lab, and tasting room styles of learning. “The weather has been very warm and dry, so that moves the ripeness along very quickly,” said Tim Godfrey, LMC Director of Wine and Viticulture Technology. If you are under 21, you can still be a part of the program. “Our student population is really diverse we have traditional college students that are 18 to 22 they are learning wine in a kind of different way because they’re a little underage but they are mostly interested in the viticulture of the growing of the vines out in the vineyard,” said Godfrey.

The program offers a comprehensive wine education experience, encompassing a wide range of wine types and regions. Students learn about different grape varieties, winemaking techniques, and the history of wine. The program is designed to prepare students for careers in the wine industry.

This program has been a huge success, with students earning a significant amount of money. The program has also been a great success in terms of student engagement. Students are actively involved in all aspects of the winemaking process, from grape harvesting to bottling.

The tasting room is open during the day on Fridays and Saturdays at Lake Michigan College.
